Reader Stories: Why I Eat Low Fat

From tomsculpture

I Eat Low Fat Because ...

I had a stroke in 1997 and have watched my intake of fats and sugars ever since. My cholesterol was over 480 and my triglycerides were outta site. My blood pressure was high at 220 / 120 and I was dizzy all the time or at least when I bent over or stood up or exerted at all. I just didn't know I was at risk and didn't feel the need to go to the doctor.

How Do You Eat Low Fat?

I never eat anything with over 3 gm of fat or 200 mg of salt. I've eliminated all trans-fats and cholesterol-containing foods. Which means I gave up all red meat and even chicken. I try not to eat anything fried. I only eat fish which has Omega-3 in it. I eat a lot of high-fiber foods now. Most of my fats are from nuts and avocado.

No candy except dark chocolate, and no foods with high fructose corn syrup.

Advice

  • Get a dietitian or at least a nutritionist to help with your diet if you need to. Tell them what you like to eat and they can make a personal diet with most of your foods. Read all your food labels for ingredients and educate yourself with books or the internet on what to eat and what not to eat, and what supplements will help you.
  • The large corporations don't really care if you live, only that the food tastes good and you buy it. They depend on your ignorance.
