7) The Benefits of Low Fat Dairy Products

Consuming non fat or low fat dairy products may have a beneficial effect on blood pressure in middle-aged adults. Researchers in Spain studied 5,880 adults over the course of two years. Those who consumed the most low fat dairy products were almost half as likely to develop high blood pressure than those who consumed the least low fat dairy foods. The positive effect remained when all other risk factors were taken into account, including general diet, weight, exercise and smoking. Read More.

Women whose diets include low-fat dairy products may lessen their risk of developing Type-2 diabetes. Researchers looked at the relationship between Type-2 diabetes and dairy intake in 37,183 middle-aged and older women. After adjusting for factors including weight, physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history of diabetes, women with the highest intake of dairy foods were 21 percent less likely to develop Type-2 diabetes than those with the lowest intake. Low-fat dairy products were said to account for most of this reduced risk. Read More.
