A Low Fat Christmas

Wednesday December 17, 2008
If you're following a low-fat diet, the holiday season is a mixed blessing, especially coming so soon after Thanksgiving. As wonderful as it is to be among family and friends for the holidays, it's hard to say no to all those tempting holiday treats that are passed around. So how can you enjoy the festivities without abandoning your low-fat way of eating? Find some answers in my guide to a Low Fat Christmas.

Tell me which holiday treats are hardest to resist. For me, it's a toss-up between the sugar cookies and the fruit cake. Now I know that many folks hate fruit cake, but an English-style fruit cake, complete with marzipan and a fondant icing, is hard to beat. Alas, it's not low fat!

Our French Food guide shares her Cinnamon Palmiers with us. These cookies are tiny scroll-like pastries, with a touch of caramelized cinnamon. Simply delicious.

If you're looking for a little bit of chocolate in your cookies, then these fabulous Chocolate Oat Cookies will fit the bill. These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are shared with us by our guide to Australian and New Zealand food. Decorate them with smarties/M&Ms, colored sprinkles or nuts.
