When you’re trying to eat low fat, there are many foods you should try to avoid or limit. What might surprise you is that some of the worst offenders are sauces and condiments. What makes these fat traps worse is that stated serving sizes are often small—about 2 tablespoons. Most of us are far more generous when it comes to dressing our salads or pouring a sauce, so we often add a large number of fat calories without thinking about it.
While it’s relatively easy to switch some full-fat ingredients for low-fat ones to make our own lower-fat dressings, how can you lighten a white sauce, which is normally made from a butter- and flour-based roux?
