McDonald’s to go Trans Fat Free
Tuesday January 30, 2007
At last, McDonald’s has found a trans-fat-free oil it deems worthy of frying its fries. The new oil, which is a proprietary blend of canola, soy and corn oils, is already being used in 1,200 of its 13,700 U.S. restaurants. Long criticized for dragging its feet in the quest to replace its existing oil, McDonald's was adamant that it would not sacrifice the flavor and texture of its fries by rushing to find a replacement. McDonald’s reportedly tested 18 varieties of oil in more than 50 blends over the past seven years before settling on the new one. New Yorkers who feared that McDonald's would be kicked out of the Big Apple in July can now breathe a big sigh of relief. Somehow, though, we all knew it would never come to that.
