Healthy Halloween
Friday October 27, 2006
For me, cooking low fat isn’t terribly hard, but with my weakness for chocolate, eating low fat can be a challenge, especially with Halloween approaching. Those little fun-size candy bars are just waiting to be eaten, and it wouldn’t be good to let my kids eat their stash without a little help from me, now, would it? So just how many calories are there in those mini bars of chocolate? Wendy Bumgardner, About’s Guide to Walking, has a handy little Halloween treats calculator that not only tells me how many calories my innocent-looking piece of candy contains, but also how many miles I need to walk to burn it off.
I’ve also taken some advice from Tammy Davenport, About’s Guide to Dental Care, and bought some great little Halloween candy alternatives that I can offer to our local trick-or-treaters and also trade for some of my kids’ hard-earned stash. After peeking at Wendy’s treats calculator, I’ve promised myself not to eat the candy they hand over, though, otherwise my dog and I will be walking marathons for weeks to come.
