Balsamic Strawberries

Friday June 23, 2006
Sometimes the simplest desserts are the most sublime, and these balsamic strawberries certainly fall into this category. At first, the idea of mixing strawberries with something I would normally use for salad dressing seemed odd, but then balsamic vinegar is hardly any old vinegar, especially if you can get your hands on, and are willing to fork out for, an aged balsamic vinegar. Its sweetness enhances that of the strawberries, making them extra special. You needn’t add anything more for this dessert, although a dollop of low-fat sour cream sweetened with a little brown sugar, or some low-fat frozen yogurt would make a nice finish.
