Low Fat Chicken Pot Pie

Saturday June 4, 2005
Chicken pot pie may not strike you as a low fat food. In most cases, it isn’t. One brand of frozen chicken pot pie packs in 31g of fat, 13g of which are saturated. That’s 47% and 63% of daily values, respectively, for this pie’s 500 calories.

A familiar fast-food chain's 770-calorie chicken pot pie contains 40g of fat, 15g of which are saturated. That’s an astonishing 62% and 75% of daily values, and all before mashed potatoes and gravy are added. It's also worth noting that this pot pie contains an enormous 14g of harmful trans fats, according to the company's own nutrition data.

Slash calories and fat by making your own chicken pot pie. My one (pictured) works out at 280 calories per serving, with just 6g of fat, 1.7g of which are saturated. The other good thing about this pie is that it’s quick and easy to make.
