An apple a day is said to keep the doctor away. A new
study may support this old adage. Food scientists from Cornell University believe that quercetin, an antioxidant, may help resist the cell damage that leads to Alzheimer’s Disease and other neuro-degenerative illnesses. Although other fruits and vegetables contain this compound, apples have among the highest levels (per serving) of this powerful antioxidant. But make sure you don’t peel them, as the skin is the best source.
If you need any more convincing of the health benefits of the humble apple, did you know that eating an apple before each meal can help you consume fewer calories? Apples fill you up, keep you hydrated and provide natural sweetness. A single apple also contains one-fifth of your recommended daily fiber intake. Check out the 3-Apple-a-Day-Plan site for more on this.
